Seriously… WTH??

From the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) Website:

“An investigation by The Humane Society of the United States at a cattle slaughterhouse has documented that animals too sick or injured to stand or walk—called “downers” by industry—have been kicked, beaten, dragged with chains, shocked with electric prods, sprayed in the face with hoses and pushed by forklifts in efforts to get them to their feet to pass USDA inspection. This unacceptable cruelty potentially puts the food supply at risk—at least 12 of the 15 identified cases of mad cow disease in North America to date have reportedly been downers.

Karen spent two days manning the Humane California Home Show booth at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. Volunteers gathered more than 800 signatures over the weekend! Most all of the people that asked about the initiative signed, further proof that Californian’s are ready to vote yes on the November ballot. Here are a few pictures of the booth:

Christmas x 3

December 27, 2007 by Mike Snyder | No Comment(s) | Post a Comment

We celebrated Christmas three times this year: Christmas Eve with the Snyder family at Carrie’s house, Christmas morning at Bobbie’s house, and Christmas afternoon at the Schlesier compound. What can I say, we like Christmas. My Dad and Kathy flew in from Pinehurst, and we (all the kids) understand the difficulties of flying cross-country, especially during the Christmas season. We appreciate the effort and enjoyed their visit. My niece Nicole also flew in, it’s great to see her as we don’t get the opportunity so much now that she’s older. Thanks to Bobbie, Carrie, and both Schlesier clans for hosting us for yet another holiday. All four homes were very festive! I uploaded all the pics, the Snyder’s are on the left, Palmer’s are on the right.

Have You Signed Yet?

Karen is spending much of her free time collecting signatures for the Humane California ballot initiative which, if successful, would give voters some influence over how California factory farm animals are treated. It’s a simple measure really, giving calves, pregnant pigs, and egg-laying chickens a bit more space. Enough for them to actually spread their wings, or turn around. The focus being on preventing the use of gestation grates, veal crates, and battery cages.

If you have not signed yet, please see your local volunteer (that would be Karen). In case you would like to see more information about battery cages I have linked a three-part video called Wegmans Cruelty, some of which is graphic so if you don’t like to see that then don’t click them.
