Have You Signed Yet?

December 12, 2007 by Michael | No Comment(s) | Post a Comment

Karen is spending much of her free time collecting signatures for the Humane California ballot initiative which, if successful, would give voters some influence over how California factory farm animals are treated. It’s a simple measure really, giving calves, pregnant pigs, and egg-laying chickens a bit more space. Enough for them to actually spread their wings, or turn around. The focus being on preventing the use of gestation grates, veal crates, and battery cages.

If you have not signed yet, please see your local volunteer (that would be Karen). In case you would like to see more information about battery cages I have linked a three-part video called Wegmans Cruelty, some of which is graphic so if you don’t like to see that then don’t click them.

For more about the initiative, you can listen to listen to Jerry (from the Jeff and Jer Showgram on 94.1).

Kids Thanksgiving

November 24, 2007 by Michael | No Comment(s) | Post a Comment

On Friday we had our second annual “kid Thanksgiving” at Carrie’s house. The kids determined the menu and cooked all the food. We were served Thanksgiving norms like stuffing and potatoes and gravy, but we also enjoyed the famous Frito salad with ranch dressing, macaroni and cheese, corn, and Paige’s Rocky Road bars. [Off the record, kid food is better.]

Palmer Family Thanksgiving

We had a nice family dinner at the Schlesier’s house. Jen did a great job as host, we know a lot of work is needed to plan, cook, serve, and clean a big Thanksgiving dinner for 20. There was even plenty of good food for the veggies.

APRL

Karen and I spent the afternoon at the ‘07 Turkey-free Thanksgiving. Guest speaker Erin E. Williams (HSUS, and author of Why Animals Matter) gave a well prepared speech on the importance of a California ballot initiative intended to reduce farm animal cruelty. Bryan Pease, Kath Rogers and the Animal Protection and Rescue League (APRL) hosted the event and all proceeds benefited the initiative campaign. Follow the light for more pictures.
