Success for Prop 2

November 5, 2008 by Karen | No Comment(s) | Post a Comment

I am so fulfilled and proud to have worked for one year helping Prop 2 pass in California. Nothing feels more humanistic and peaceful than reaching outside of my own self to help other creatures on this earth that live beside me, God’s other loved ones. We have vast power over animals, and with such power comes great responsibility. We can choose to be kind and merciful or cruel and abusive. Kindness and mercy are values that exemplify the best of the human spirit. Millions of Americans love animals, but many creatures still suffer, especially farm animals in factory farms that the public cannot see.

Prop 2 has passed here in California by an overwhelming amount of kind American’s votes! We as people have showed our compassion, mercy, and stewardship in relieving 20 million animals from horrific suffering in CA factory farms.

Today I love California. Today I love to call myself an American. Today the first step has been taken in a massive movement to END factory farming across our nation and our world. We will continue our fight until all factory farming is no more! Bring back small, eco-friendly, humane, family farms! Let’s all cut back on meat intake and so we don’t have to injure as many animals and our environment with their waste! Eat vegetarian a few days a week and you will help more than you ever could imagine!

Pacelle Post

HSUS CEO Wayne Pacelle’s Sept 19th blog post regarding California’s Prop 2:

Help Us Beat Their Deceit

They treat animals like units of production. They overcrowd them and put our food supply at risk. They pollute the land and water.

“They” are Big Agribusiness, and they have raised and allocated $10 million to defeat a landmark initiative in California that would ease the suffering of millions of animals now confined in tiny crates on factory farms and suffering terribly. It’s called Proposition 2, and New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof called it “the most important election you’ve never heard of.” Indeed, because California is a trendsetter, this election has the potential to establish a better future for farm animals across the U.S.

Because of that, Big Agribusiness is investing millions in deceptive and false ads to disparage Prop 2.

The only thing that can stop them is you and me. We can match them ad for ad and tell our story to the people of California.

Karen held her Humane California fundraiser over the weekend. We had a strong turnout, raised $1350 for the “Yes on Prop 2″ campaign, and met a lot of new people. Karen and I are grateful to have such a wonderful group of friends and family who so eagerly shared their time and money for a cause very important to us. We can’t thank you enough.

Yes on Prop 2

Karen, my wonderful wife, likes protecting animals. She has been working hard on a California ballot initiative that would ban certain types of crates for egg-laying hens, veal, and pregnant pigs. I have never seen her work so hard on anything. She spends every free moment on this project that is so very important to her.

I saw her stand countless hours in front of stores collecting signatures, all by herself. Most people were at least nice, if not helpful. Some people were just plain mean. But she would keep standing and keep collecting.
